Managing Risk Through Economic Development - MRED

Mercy Corps is implementing a project called "Managing Disaster Risk through Economic Development" in the far west of Nepal. This project links the community initiatives on DRR with the existing agriculture/livelihood and private sector in order to make the whole system sustainable.

Strengthening Livelihood Capacities to Disaster Risk Reduction in Nepal

This book documents the lessons learned during the project implementation in Nepal. It describes the prevailing physical, institutional and socio-economic context, and details teh activities and its interventions. This book is a compilation of initiatives and their evaluated outcomeson improved and diversified livelihood strategies, including the adoption of new income earning opportunities which has increased incomes and food security, and improved health and resilience of targeted cpommunities while reducing their exposure to prevailing and future hazards.

Understanding Disaster Management in Practice with reference to Nepal (Nepali)

IIn January 2007 Practical Action Nepal Office joined Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Peru and Zimbabwe in the implementation of the DFID CHF funded project entitled “Livelihood Centred Approaches to Disaster Management.” The project focuses on the roles and linkages between poor communities and district and national institutions in relation to both disaster management and development.
