The International Day for Disaster Reduction is organized each year in October. This year it will be on Friday 12 October. The theme for 2012 is 'Women and Girls: the (in)visable force or resilience'.
Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal and DPNet-Nepal are organizing a half-day National Symposium in collaboration with various disaster management stakeholders to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) 2012. The main objectives of the IDDR 2012 event are to acknowledge the role of women and girls who make their communities more resilient to disasters, increase the understanding of gender concern in DRR process and make joint efforts to bring changes to the socio-cultural/political framework that intensifies the exclusion of women and their vulnerabilities. The theme of the IDDR Day 2012 is "Women and girls - (in)visible force of resilience.”
