This booklet provides an overview of SEWIN Project’s activities and how these activities have helped the community to become resilient towards flood in the form of different case studies.
This publication is a result of ICIMOD's collaboration with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and national partners in China, India, Nepal, and Pakistan since 2008 to document, assess, and over the long term - strengthen local strategies for adaptation to flood and drought in and downstream from mountain catchments.
This Training of Trainers Manual is designed to help build the capacity of trainers in flash flood risk management, who can then disseminate the knowledge to a larger number of practitioners. The manual presents an eight-day course including a three-day field trip. Detailed lesson plans for 21 sessions are followed by resource materials that will enable the trainers to replicate the course in their own work areas.
Practical Action has been working on community based EWS (early warning systems) in Nepal since 2002 - specifically on systems which give early warning of flood. As a result of its own learning, on-going community feedback, and “real time” evaluation, Practical Action has become convinced of a number of key issues. This publication summarises Practical Action’s learning in EWS and offers practical insight in to how such systems can be replicated and developed elsewhere.
